Thom Buescher
I am a painter and illustrator based in coastal Maine whose work has evolved in many directions over the years. Trained first academically as a draftsman and graphic designer, then a sculptor in lost wax and bronze figures, and finally discovering the broad horizons of painting in classic watercolors before finally settling on my current media, acrylic gouache. My works in the past thirty years have focused chiefly on the views and nuances of Maine’s coastal islands and the barrier islands along the Eastern shores of Virginia and North Carolina.
My working subjects vary with the seasons and my location at that time of the year. I visit islands from spring to fall, and am always looking for further vantage points and interesting scenes to capture.
COMMISSIONS: I often accept commissions by clients for a painting of a favorite view or spot they have traveled to already. I begin with a conversation, a review of any available pictures they may have, and often add in a visit to the location if it is accessible to me. Pricing is linked to size of the final work, complexity of the subject, and hours in the studio. The resulting painting can be purchased if acceptable, or I will put it up for sale through my gallery contacts.
